Hi, I’m Robin, and I truly appreciate you stopping by. This is the short version of how my journey into bag making began.

After many years in corporate America in West Michigan, I finally discovered my creative spark. What began as a simple curiosity soon grew into a love for machine embroidery and bag making and that’s how Threads by Bird was born (Bird is my nickname). My journey started in 2021 when my husband bought me a small sewing and embroidery machine. From there, I grew step by step, adding a multi-needle embroidery machine and eventually an industrial sewing machine. With each bag I’ve created, I’ve learned something new like exploring different handbag techniques, experimenting with a wide range of hardware, mastering finishing touches, working with various textiles, and even uncovering the endless possibilities of quilting.

Some days I sit in my sewing room and can’t believe how much has happened in such a short time. I feel truly blessed to have this opportunity to create, especially since I never saw myself as a creative. If you’re reading this and thinking about becoming a bag maker, just start small. I began with YouTube videos and baby steps. Today, every bag I make is a true labor of love, blending culture, creativity, and lasting beauty into pieces meant to be cherished for years to come.
